Just east of downtown, the Greenwood-Coxwell neighbourhood is a popular spot for families and young professionals due to its proximity and accessibility to the city centre and the nearby communities of Leslieville and The Beaches. From Danforth Ave. down to Eastern Ave., between Greenwood Ave. and Coxwell Ave., the area is serviced by streetcars on Queen, Dundas and Carlton Streets, the Bloor-Danforth subway in the north and buses running north-south. This largely residential and commercial area is also dotted with parkettes and borders Woodbine Park on the south side.
Little India
A hugely popular and vibrant area of this neighbourhood, for its plethora of authentic Indian dishes, the intersection of Greenwood Ave. and Gerrard Ave. draws Torontonians and tourists to the area known as Little India. The Lahore Tikka House, complete with a decorative tuk-tuk outside, is a Toronto institution that serves one of the best Butter Chicken dishes around, with the Biryani and Lamb Karahi as other firm favourites. Close by Siddhartha is a vegetarian haven draped in colourful silks making for an experience that’s as cozy as it is delicious.

Shopping Tips
In addition to Indian fabric stores along Gerrard St., the bustling stretch of Queen St. E. that runs through this neighbourhood is full of independent stores. From the specialty bike and cross-country ski store, Velotique, which also offers bicycle maintenance workshops, there’s the gently used children’s clothing store, Bumbleberry Kids and East End Garden Centre that’s always in full bloom.
