Oakwood-Vaughan

Formerly part of the City of York, Oakwood-Vaughan is a bustling multicultural neighbourhood running from Saint Clair Avenue West, in the south to Eglington Avenue West, in the north, Dufferin Avenue, in the west and Winette and Arlington Avenues in the east. The community has sprung up around a stretch of Oakwood Avenue, also known as Oakwood Village, which is home to the annual Oakwood Village Arts Festival. Incorporating a portion of Little Jamaica on the north eastern point, the area is well served by the TTC with frequent buses running north-south and the Saint Clair West and Eglington streetcars east-west.

Indoor Play

The neighbourhood is home to two libraries: Oakwood Village Public Library in the centre and the contemporary Maria A. Shchuka Public Library in the north, which offers free computer courses and specialist seminars by guest speakers. Looking to exercise your body as well as your mind? Popular environmentally conscious yoga centre Moksha also has a location in the area.

Delicious Eats

Tasty independent eateries are dotted throughout the area. Emma’s Country Kitchen’s sweets are as unique as they are delicious: seasonal home-baked goods include blood orange, pistachio and cardamom doughnuts and apple cheddar fritters. Boom Breakfast Company is a popular brunch spot with locals, serving eggs in more ways than you can count.
